M&T March (finally)

So now that April is more than half way done I thought we would report our March weightloss:Tammy - 1 lb
Mark - 5lbs

However...April is not looking very good (but we have 2 more weeks!).

M&T Feb Weight Loss

Mark - 5lbs, but I've been stuck at my current weight, +/-2lbs, for the last 3 weeks! I may never shave at this rate!  I would really like to be baby-facing it again by my birthday!
Tammy - 7lbs - she just keeps doing awesome.

Update

Well, as of two days ago I'm 9 lbs down. Another 9 lbs and I'll be in the 200's again. That'd be nice.

M&T January Losses

Tammy lost about 6 lbs in January
I lost about 7 lbs and got to shave a little off twice this month!
I shave a little off at 5 lb goals -195, 190, 185, 180.  My goal weight is to keep under 180 (preferably under 175).  The best part is that co-workers, patients, and neighbors all know about it and are a constant motivation/reminder to me because they can SEE if I am doing well or not.  It has worked well, I have lost 10 lbs total since I started this! (check out the pics on Facebook)

January Loss

OK, I didn't do as well as I wanted, but since I agreed to do this, I will report that I lost 13 pounds in January.

Thursday, January 6, 2011

HELLO 2011!

So I was wondering who was up for another Wardle Weight loss competition? No money just us keeping each other motivated! I will not be having any weight loss until the end of April, but at that point I hope to be dropping weight quite rapidly! I think we may have Tyler talked into participating if others are willing! So comment and let me know! We can see how good we are all doing at Disneyland this summer and then maybe see if we averaged more weight loss this year than 2009, (I think we averaged about 10lbs a person, that year). I don't know about you but weighting myself in once a week was great motivation to stick to it!

Fat Secret Website

Hey, I found this cool website that is totally FREE and lets you count your calories, exercise and much more. It is WAY easy to count calories because it has almost all the food right there for you to just pick (like Great Value Zesty Italian dressing, McDonalds items, generic/homemade ch. chip cookies, etc.). If you are following a specific diet you can pick that too. Lots of other tools on there that I may or may not even use.

who's in..

So i found some "sprint distance triathlons" that look like a lot of fun... you can split them with 1 or 2 other people.. i think we could do some.. whos in..

these ones are female only

and i think this one is too...

but really each leg of the race is short, so i think we could do them!

Did it!

1 lb down is not a huge accomplishment, especially when illness had more to do with it than will power, but still I dropped a pound over the holidays which is a step in the right direction.

Something weighing me down...

So I have a confession. I gained it all back. Yeah baby! I guess I just felt that there was something missing my life and now I am whole again. hahaha

Actually, it was just that with the move, getting sick and blah blah blah I ate too much and moved too little.

But NO MORE. I am back on the band wagon and I am going to start to lose again. And, since Christmas usually adds a few, I am going to lose DURING Christmas. I figure if I can lose during I will keep losing after.

So here I am: 0 lbs lost but soon some more!

Here we are after the race...

Catherine as she gets he chip cut off her shoe...

Waiting for the race to start....

When is this thing gonna start?...

The chip on Amy's shoe...

This is what we looked like the whole 3.1 miles!

Showing off our consecutive numbers, 559, 560, and 561!

(these are the times we saw as we crossed the line)
Mark and Amy: 32 min 40 sec
Catherine: 33 min 11 sec

ok so I just checked the websites and these are the official times*
Mark 32 min 41 sec (10 min 30 sec mile pace)
Amy 32 min 42 sec ( 10 min 31 sec mile pace)
Catherine 33 min 16 sec (10 min 42 sec mile pace)

Quick side note... I would have placed second if I had signed up as a "Filly"... HAHA!

This week...

Ty and I maintained... It's a work in progress...

Sunday, August 23, 2009

It took me a month...

But I am back to my starting point... with all the traveling, and bad eating that is entailed... I am here, and feeling much better, plus I am getting back to my workout routine... how is everybody else doing?

new goal..

So last year I made 17.5 lbs of my 22 lb goal, so I now have a new goal, to get to the "normal" BMI on the BMI scale, which is a total of 11 lbs... I pretty sure these 11 lbs are gonna be tough to loose, but I sure am gonna try... Good luck!

Tylers new goal is 40lbs. He says he wants to know what the motivation is?...lol... we never did cash in on the whole dollar a pound thing, are we going to try that again?

Sunday, July 19, 2009

Mark's Total...

12 lbs. Not quite my goal of 15 but close. Now if I can only avoid gaining it all back during the reunion!

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

Radio Silence...

Now that we are just weeks away I need to get under the radar as to not alert my competition...
See you all at the reunion!

Stealth Mode On.

I have a new goal...

Ok so I had lost weight last week and then we drove to Washington to pick up the kids, needless to say I gained it all back. SO, because it seems I don't have a chance at Biggest Loser this year, I have a new goal. I am going to run (ok, jog) a 5k. And I don't have much time left to train, in fact you guys are all gonna have to help me. The 5k is July the 25th, so that means I am going to have to train while we are at the Wardle reunion. I started jogging on top of my nighly walk a couple of weeks ago, and have gotton up to joggin over 20 min (5 songs!.. that's how I count) without stopping, so I know I can walk the 3.1 miles, but I would really like to jog it! So I have three weeks to get there. So, add to your packing list, jogging shoes! Plus I have a new weight loss goal for Wardle Weightloss 2010! New goals all around!

Tyler maintained.

Sunday, June 28, 2009

yeah!

I lost that pound from last week so I am back to where I should be. and I can feel that I will lose more this week. I can feel it in my bones!

Tyler Maintained.

No dice...that's twice!

Too bad, so sad!

Sunday, June 21, 2009

GRRR..

I gained a lb... I would like to blame, my hair, it is growing at an unusually fast rate, just puttin on the pounds you know... if you don't buy that excuse then I would like to propose, that I ate way to many smores on our camping trip this weekend, and if for some odd reason you don't believe it was only the smores I propose it was the potoato chips, and other junk that happened to make it to the trip, I would like to excuse the watermelon from the list though, I am sure it wasn't the watermelon....

Tyler maintained.

A weightloss riddle for you...it's true!

Who loses weight with a day at the lake,
When Hotdogs and Snacks and Smores all attack?
Who, oh who could it be?

...NOT ME!
Better luck next week I hope!

Help!

Ok so I have maintained again... does anyone know how to loose the last 5 lbs to get to a goal? Apparently eating most of Tylers homemade cheesecake with ice cream and Carmel is not the way to do it... so I think I am missing something (and no unfortunatly I am not able to try Mark's jumpstart diet, I would cheat on day one...) I've got a month and a few days and I am feeling pretty helpless...but I sure am excited about going camping this weekend!

The Wierd Weight Changes of Marathon Week

Yep, this was marathon week. I ran 26.2 miles yesterday and finished just under 5 hours (4:50:53) which is a lot faster than I thought I was going to run it. I ran the first half of the marathon in 2:20 and thought I ran the last half sooo much slower (The last 4 miles I would walk 1-2 minutes and then run the rest of that mile - a strategy I was taught by a 70 y/o marathoner I met at the beginning of the race) but I only added 10 more minutes to that last half so I was pretty excited about that!

Anyway, this is a weight loss blog not a "go-on-and-on-about-my-marathon" blog so I will get back to the weight issue...

I carb loaded this week (lots of pancakes, french toast, spaghetti, lasagna, and ravioli...yummy!) with the goal of maintaining my weight within a half pound. Sure enough I weighed in at 4am Saturday AM at a 1/2lb gain and then left for the marathon. I thought it would be fun to weigh in after the marathon too. Despite drinking a LOT of water and a medium sized berry julius in the hour between the marathon and when I weighed in at home, I had lost 3 lbs. Of course I was probably still quite dehydrated and had no food bulk in me at all!

And now, after a cheese stick, a Six-dollar Western Bacon Cheeseburger, several brownies, and 3 slices of pizza (not the wheat kind), I ended up this morning completely even with last week.

That's right, this was a VERY long post to essentially say...I maintained! But it sure was a fun way to do it!

Wheat Pizza to the Rescue!

Yesterday was a busy day so we thought we'd order pizza so we could keep working while we waited for it. Papa John's has a whole wheat pizza that is actually pretty good. We tried it a few weeks ago and then again yesterday.
Usually with pizza I can easily eat half a large and sometimes more (in fact I find it hard to NOT eat half a pizza!!!). Luckily the Wheat stuff, while yummy, fills me up after only one or two slices. So, thanks to chosing the wheat last night, I can still report a pound weight loss this week. Yeah Wheat!

Wednesday, June 3, 2009

HA!

Love the new background and I have to say the whole month of May came and went and I missed it and all of a sudden we have a little over a month to get the weight off?.. EEK! Somebody give me some Hollywood secret to get these pounds off!

Who would have thought...

I pulled a muscle (at least I hope that is all it was) on Monday so I didn't run the rest of the week in order to recover. I was fully expecting some bad news when I mounted the scales today but was pleasantly surprised. Down 2 lbs. It was probably from the week before when I forgot to weigh myself but I'll take it.
My foot still hurts a bit today but I hope it will be okay as I try to do my training runs this week...I need it to heal for my marathon! Otherwise it's $60 down the drain!

in Idaho...

This week...

We maintained... thats all.

OOPS!!!

I forgot to weigh today. My marathon training has me eating more carbs starting last week until the marathon on the 13th and the book really encourages me NOT to lose any weight during these 4 weeks in order to "build up" my Glycogen supply. So I am tempted just not to weigh myself for a month...but then I am worried I will gain tons! Hmmmm.

Mark vs Munchies...the final match.

After a 2 wk wait for this highly anticipated final match we have a winner. Mark gave the Munchies a steady beating while in the Dominican Republic resisting the various chips and snacks available. Nevertheless the Munchies fought back with tasty fried empanadas for dinners and an amazing final effort last night at the family birthday party where he POUNDED Mark with Pizza, Licorice, Cake and Icecream. Mark tried to stay in the game by burnng some calories at the foosball, pingpong and airhockey courts but was it enough...IT WAS! 3-2 win by 1 lb! Mark emerges champion in an international - all out - down to the wire - match that will not soon be repeated! [crowd roars]

(of course now that we're back in the States with alot more snacks available...we will see how well he maintains his victory!?!)

Plateu city

Well we both hit a plateau this week, maintained... (with all that pizza, candy and Mom's good food.. this is great!)

We also saw Amy, who looked amazing and reported 15 pound weight loss! (which I think was her goal)

How did everybody else fair?

Sunday, May 3, 2009

Way down in Idaho

Tyler is down 3 lbs for a total of 4. and I am down 4.5lbs.. or a total of 17.5... Its was a good week! How did you all do?

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Game on...

Ok, so many a comments I've heard about "where's Tyler?", "how's Tyler's weight loss", etc. Truth is, I haven't really done much since we left for Oklahoma (not from... to Oklahoma). And I even put on some weight when Catherine left me there. However, a week or so ago I went down below three hundred for the first time since Oklahoma, and then up and downed for a while until I landed at 301 lb (one less than I started at back in July). I decided since Cat is now speed walking every night with the RS in the neighborhood for an hour I should get some exercise time as well, but hadn't started yet. Well, today I ate horribly for lunch, a student brought me a Mt. Dew, and all I could think was, great more weight. So, I decided to do something about it.

Tonight I went running. It was more of a walk/jog, but I put in a little more than a mile. It's a small start, but I'm back in the game. I'm eating better, I'm not BUYING any more soda (in case anyone is unclear, it's soda, not pop), and I'm running. Bottom line, I'm back in the game, and I'm gunna be losing some serious weight. Mark, I hear there's some personal betting going on and you can count me in. I need all the money I can get ;-)

Keep up if you can, but I'll be catching up fast cause this fatty is tired of being like this.

Crunch Time Challenge!!!

So unlike Tammy and Jackee who were already self motivated enough to lose tons of weight in half the time, I thought based on Cat's article she found that the rest of us could use some more motivation. This is really for those of us still trying to lose weight but who know for one reason or another we aren't going to be the BIG LOSER who walks away with the BIG WIN.

Here's the idea:

Those who say they want to join in will compete with each other...$1 per pound difference!
What does that mean... if I end up losing 30lbs (dream on...) and YOU only lose 17lbs, the difference is 13lbs so you pay me $13! Of course if YOU lost 30 and I only lost 10 then I would pay you $20 but Person #3 who also joined in but only lost 3lbs would pay me $7 and YOU $27. Get it?

The overall winner would be excluded of course (as will Tammy and Jackee...sorry girls but unless you're planning on weighing in on July 19th, you are already done with the weightloss for the year -besides, Jackee still looks like she may BE the big winner!). However, it will be some motivation for the rest of us to stay strong and rededicate ourselves to living healthy.

How will this motivate YOU???
#1 - Positive thinker: "If I lose more than the rest of those who join in (or even just the majority)...I will be walking away with some extra cash to go blow at some cool salad bar!!!
#2 - Negative thinker: "I'm not going to lose enough to come out ahead...but every pound I do lose means that is one less dollar I will have to give to those who beat me!!!

So what do you say? Are you in?

Mark vs Munchies week 4...Back in the Game!

That's right, I lost a pound this week. Some of that might have been skin of my face, neck, arms and calves now that the sunburn has started peeling!!! Ha Ha.

So if I can stay on top of the munchies this week that will mean I will triumph 3 out of 5 weeks and I can finally come up with another title for my posts!!! Won't that be great?!?

Another great week...

I am down another pound and a half! For a total of 13 and just single digits away from my goal!... wooohoo! This week has been great for exercise, I walk every night at 9pm with the neighborhood ladies, we figure after we get the kids in bed we can actually get some speed on instead of having to wait for the kids to "pedal hard" or stop and grab the lost sippy cup that was thrown out of the stoller, we love it! Plus Stake womens volley ball startedon thursdays! I missed volleyball!.. Watchout guys.. vacation is coming up! How did did you all do?!?

Interesting article I found...

Weight Loss You Can Bank On

Making a friendly bet could pay off big on your bathroom scale.

So says a study in which dieters who were paid to lose weight dropped about 10 pounds more than the people not offered the dollar reward.

Reach Your Goal, Get the Green
Researchers recently put a group of obese people into one of three weight loss plans. Two of the programs included a cash-reward incentive, one did not. The goal: Lose 16 pounds in 16 weeks. When time was up, the cash-reward groups lost 14 and 13 pounds. The control group? Only 3 pounds.

Mark vs Munchies: How about 3 out of 5...

That's right...no success this week. :( This was my busy work week which means I usually ate late and snacked often. I also hurt my ankle so I ran a LOT less this week. Hopefully my ankle will heal up and I can get back in the game!

This week..

is down again... at least for Catherine... I have lost 1.5 lbs, I am over halfway to my goal!.Feels like I might actually get there now. Tyler maintained... that makes a net loss in Idaho! Woohoo! How did everybody else do?

**Did anyone notice we have exactly three months left until the start of the reunion?... so who is holding back on their weight loss.. becuase we are no where near our goal... has anyone talked to anyone in California or Amy or Brett?... maybe they can help our numbers!

Bowing Out

Yup, just like Catherine said, I am out of the race. I did lose 25 pounds, though, before I got pregnant so you all have your work cut out for you. Come on, I know you can do it!

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Mark vs Munchies...all tied up!

That's right, in the rematch I was able to come back so we are even again!
This week, I working on a knock-out strategy to secure the win against the munchies!

Monday, April 13, 2009

I have to say...

That I love my chances of winning the biggest loser this July.. they just keep getting better and better... my two biggest competitors are out of the running! Party on!.. Congrats guys! What are we at #24? (plus we are that much closer to Grandpa getting his 30 without me and Tyler having 5.. you guys keep up the good work cause we are pretty content with our 2!)

Sunday, April 12, 2009

Sadly...

I only maintained. As of Friday morning I had lost over a pound but of course I gave into temptation this weekend when Tyler brought home a package of double stuff oreos and some thin mints cookies (I think the list said graham crackers:).. but alas... I was the one that succumbed to the temptation and made pudding parfaits out of them... I will learn and do better next week!

Update** Tyler lost one pound this week! Woohoo!

Sunday, April 5, 2009

Mark vs Munchies...

Munchies won this week! I'll take 'em on again next week!

another week down...

and that is way down for me! a whole three pounds! woohoo three pounds.. for a total of 10, just one lb from half of my goal! It feels so good!

Sunday, March 29, 2009

Week ?

Well I lost this week but not enough to report a full 1/2 lb...so I will stay the same and hope to get more next week. We did eat really well with a few salads this week, we even took 4 family walks (monday thru thursdsay.. rain and snow too!) but Cameron got sick Friday, Kevin and Tyler got sick saturday and I apparntly got it this morning.. the both ends, up till 4 in the morning, how many baths have the kids had already tonight? kind of sick.. bad stuff... hope it passes soon!

1 down...10 to go!

I am finally starting to lose weight again (just in time for the family parties and Easter candy!). That marks 5 lbs so I just have 10 more to go for my goal!

Sunday, March 22, 2009

Back in the game!

so I weighed myself this afternoon, I am 7 lbs down from vacation, so I am officially back in the game. We've got lots to unpack.. we will see how we do this week!

Stuck

I am still Stuck in Maintenance City. I have still been running lots (10 miles yesterday), but apparently my calorie intake has increased to match it! I do feel good after the runs though. Hopefully as I continue my carb cravings will go down and my calorie burn will stay high...then we'll be back on the road to weightloss!

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

we will see...

Well me and the boys get back to our house this Friday... a house WITHOUT all these snacks so we will get back on the scale soon, Tyler bought a new scale so I of course will have an excuse for a few extra pounds... then we can get down to business! I did happen to notice that the last post was out 100th post and the lucky Troy and Jackee made it! I would give them a lb allowance for celebration, but I don't think they need it so I will just give them a big thumbs up for keeping with it all this time... not very much time left.. the reunion is coming up quick! Can we still get our goal?

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

Too Many Cookies!

Well, this month I made and consumed a few too many cookies so the loss isn't great. However, there is a small loss of 2.5 lbs., so I guess I should be happy about that. I guess I had a few more days of being good than of indulging. My total loss is 25 which is half way to my goal. The problem is that we are way more than halfway to the Wardle vacation. Sigh!!! I guess I have to work harder.

Sunday, March 1, 2009

23 4 1

This last week I was on the treadmill for 23 miles (over several days of course). It helped me drop 1 lb! So 23 miles FOR 1 lb...
I have 11 more lbs to go so that's 253 more miles! Or I guess I could just eat a few less snacks!

Thursday, February 26, 2009

Bubble Burster...

Do we all realize that we have about 350 goal-lbs to go in about 140 days? That's almost 2.5lbs a day, or about 17lbs a week! Not that we can't do it if everyone hits their personal goals (and I am hoping some of you have just been holding back on the reporting), but I just wanted to remind us all that the clock is still ticking.... Only 4 1/2 months left! (I'm still behind myself so I better get cracking!)

Sunday, February 22, 2009

Jazz it up!

I know I said there were not any Saturday night party's to ruin this week's weigh-in but...
Moriah actually was able to go to the Jazz BBall game with her junior Jazz team and I went with her. We had a blast. Of course, how can you enjoy a Basketball game without hotdogs and snack food. Luckily, my weigh-in shows I am still maintaining so that is at least something. Hopefully next week I will stop the plateau phase and start moving down again.

Sunday, February 15, 2009

All for not...

So I have been doing pretty well this week maintaining last wk's weight loss and even thought I had shaved off another pound or two. However, it was all for not as we had our Feb birthday/Valentine's party yesterday with all the "Utah -Click" plus Mom and Dad. Let's just say I had one or two too many slices of pizza and way too much cake to weigh in this week! We'll see what next week brings! There are no Saturday night party's that I am aware of...but you never know! ;)

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Sorry!

I totally weighed on Sunday and then forgot to blog about it. I am 4.5 lbs lower than I was at Bear Lake, So I have some serious work to do... But at least I have (another) starting point. Off to the races!

Sunday, February 8, 2009

Going the right direction...finally

So after a week of trying to resist all the late night "Rachel-Snacks", I have dropped 3lbs.
Hopefully the other 5lbs come off as quick so I can get back to were I was!

Friday, February 6, 2009

Right there with ya...almost

I hear ya Tyler! Over the holidays I did manage to gain some of the lbs back but then something even more devastating happened! Rachel moved in. While, like the holidays, it is fun and exciting to have her here, it is also filled with lots of treats that I really shouldn't eat! Let's just say Rachel has a sweet tooth and has a late-night eating habit. Unfortunately I no longer have her level of metabolism!
So, to make a long excuse shorter...I have gained ALL my previous weight back and get to start over as well! Hopefully since it came back on fast (and Rachel has decided so many late night snacks probably are not wise) I should be able to get back on track! (Currently I am resisting her caramel popcorn she just made...I love caramel!)
Here's to hoping!

New Beginning

Yes Jackee, I know it's been quiet here on the WWL blog. Catherine hasn't been posting a whole lot during her treatments, and I'm just a bad blogger. However, I am hoping to start losing some weight again. For the record I started this little thing at about 302 lbs, and got down to 295 lbs fairly quickly. But when Catherine left me in Oklahoma (rude), I put on a few. After having dropped a few since being in California (from just not eating out 2 meals a day and the other meal usually being a frozen pizza), I am still at the highest weight I've ever known for sure (I wasn't really weighing myself when I put on all the weight). Now, at a whopping 313 lbs., I feel like I need to get back on the waggon. Catherine and I worked out Monday and Tuesday this week, and hopefully will continue doing so after we leave California. It felt good to work up a sweat. Now I just need to work on the eating habits. Hmmm... I guess I'll go put the cookies I baked away for the night. I'll try not to bake tomorrow! ;-)

Helloooooooo...Echo Echo Echo

Where is everybody? If this keeps up, I may have to post weekly. For the month of January I am down 4.5 lbs. I think the treadmill does help, Catherine. I hope it works for you, too. According to Weight Watchers today, I lost three this week. I don't get it, though, sometimes I weigh more there than my scale and sometimes I weigh less. Anyway, for the WWL, I am using my own scale and according to it, I lost 2 this last week.

Sunday, January 25, 2009

Its a new day!

I start tomorrow.. with a new weight in tomorrow morning. I just weighed myself and I am a lot lower than where I was 2 weeks ago and according to Tyler at my last chemo treatment (2 weeks ago) I was heavier then where I started in Bear Lake, so tomorrow (can I say that enough) I will weigh in and start a new. Look out the competition is starting again!!! As for tonight I am limiting myself to one brownie... I feel like I am on the biggest loser!... Thank goodness for the needed motivation.

Friday, January 16, 2009

WOOHOO!

Tammy won't be in the running for biggest loser for long!... and she has a good reason!!! Yeah TAMMY!

Thursday, January 15, 2009

Tammy's Done

At a total of 17lbs lost, Tammy is done with her weightloss for the rest of the challenge.
If you can't guess why then visit our family blog to find out.
Mark however is still in the race and is excited to have the "sympathy weight" excuse now!

Holimonth...and Some Firsts

OK, not quite a holimonth, but definitely a holitwoweeks (nice new word, huh?). It started out alright being down 2.5 lbs., then two weeks of homemade sweets and wonderful meals put me up 8 lbs. (yeah, 8, I know that's bad, however, I heard the average holiday gain is around 15). Then a good 1.5 weeks and I lost 6.5, so at least I get to report a loss of 1 for the month, putting me at 18. Just think if I could've had more will power and avoided all that homemade fudge and toffee. Oh, well, maybe I'll try harder next year. Then again, I doubt it, I thoroughly enjoy my holiday treats.

On a better note, I have a few firsts to report, maybe just to boost my own spirits. This is the first time I have ever lost more than 20 lbs.(31)in one diet. (I'm now counting from last January, not the Wardle challenge). Second, it is the first time that I have dieted and kept it off (or at least got it off again quickly) instead of gaining my loss back plus 5 or 10 more. It is also the first time I have kept at a diet for a whole year instead of a month or two. I have a long way to go, but hopefully I can stick to it and be where I need to be in a couple of years.

Troy also enjoyed the holiday sweets and delicious meals. He says he tipped the scales at a whopping 240, a personal high. However, it came back off quickly and he is back to 235. Because he hasn't been good at reporting and he started at 236, that is actually a gain, putting him at only one pound down. He said he would like to share a scripture with you. It's 1 Timothy 4:8 which states, " For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things."

Christmas Miracles

Somehow, Tammy was able to lose one more pound bringing her down to a total of 17 lbs so far...way to go baby!
Mark's miracle was that Santa brought him a You-Don't-Have-To-Report-This-Week card which I am using this week for one reason or another! Ho Ho HO!

Avoid the Holiday Horror: Winter Weight-gain...

Here is a tiny article from my work's newsletter about holiday eating:

Here come the holidays! Most of us just “give up” paying attention to what we eat during this special time of year. There are so many foods we label as “bad” but we still really enjoy them. Let the holidays be stress free as you follow some simple tips:

• Focus on weight maintenance rather than weight loss during the holidays. Don’t make unrealistic goals that will set you up for failure.
• Begin a healthy eating plan now and make the holidays a part of the plan. Anticipating food restriction will increase the likelihood of binge eating. It’s common to think: “If I can’t eat this when I start my diet, I might as well eat as much as I can now!”
• Be physically active every day, even if you just take a walk around the block.
• Eat a healthy snack before going to a holiday party or bring the veggie tray with you. If you go to a party starving, you are more likely to choose high-fat, high-calorie foods, as well as overeat.
• Reduce the fat in holiday recipes. Cheesy, creamy dishes tend to have high amounts of fat.
There are several healthy substitutes that can be used when cooking. Below are some healthy
substitution tips.
• Maintain perspective. Over- eating during one meal will not break your eating plan. If you over-indulge during a holiday meal, put it behind you. Remember it’s a holiDAY not a holiWEEK or holiMONTH. Anticipate the extra calories and adjust your meals accordingly.

Ingredient Substitute
Sour cream - low fat plain yogurt or low fat sour cream
Whole milk - skim or 1 % milk
Whipped cream - low fat whipped products like Cool Whip
Butter - oil, apple sauce, prune puree (in baked goods)

A little colder in Utah...

That's right, this week I have a little less insulation. I thankfully lost 3 of the 4 "Thanksgiving" lbs this week. Just one more pound it'll be like that car-ride junk food and thanksgiving turkey never even existed!
Tammy did the official weigh in as well and has been maintaining the 15lb weight loss despite the Thanksgiving/Vacation. She is probably the only reason I am doing as well as I am. I always want to make a snack or some hot chocolate and she says, "sounds great, but I'll pass", and it's just too hard to make a snack for just myself!

So...

I gained... three pounds! apparently when the only thing you want to eat is pizza rolls, you gain. I will make a mental note of that for next week.... eek!

November Update

Troy thinks he has maintained. I personally don't think he gets on the scale much. As for me, I'm slowly trying to get back on track after two rollercoaster months. I lost 3.5 this month which puts my total now at 17. I would love to lose some in December but....well I guess we'll see.....October didn't work out so well and December is typically worse for me. This week we have a neighbor Christmas party, a Relief Society Christmas party, and our Christmas Cookie Party. It's a good thing I post monthly because I doubt next week will look very good. Hopefully I can stay on track. Any good advice?

Bringing a little back from Cali...

Like 4 lbs back!!! We did enjoy the trip to California and I even did a little running and racquetball while I was there...thank heavens or I might have gained it all back.
We eat alot of snacks when we drive and of course you can't forget Thanksgiving and card playing...both notorious for heavy eating. Oh well...
Tammy seems to have done a better job maintaining.
Hopefully Tammy will continue to maintain and I will lose some of those California trip "memories" by our Sunday weigh - in!

Cat update...

I lost two pounds this week. The week of thanksgiving! How did you all do?

Cat weight loss...

I lost a pound!.. woohoo!....)

Sunday, November 16, 2008

Nothing new...thank heavens!

We both maintained this week.
I have been on-call all week which means several middle of the night calls and deliveries. So when I am home, I sleep. Hence, exercise has been poor on my part while my calorie intake has, um, not slowed down any. I guess I am just lucky Tammy has hid the halloween candy!
Next Sunday we'll be reporting from Cali. I better work hard this week because we all know that long car trips are not very friendly to the waist-line!

Cat weight loss...

I lost 2 lbs...hopefully it was fat and not muscle!

This week...

... I maintained.. I sure do a lot of that!... This week we will see how the chemo effects (or is affects) my appetite... I really never am hungry anymore but I just eat out of habit ( and the fact that they have so much good food around here!- strawberries, salads, turkey, chicken, and foods that I will not be able to eat after wednesday) At first I kept telling myself "i need to eat to keep my strength up) then I found out that part of my treatment would entail prednisone (a steriod known for uping your appitite and causing weight gain.) So I stopped eating so much thinking.. I can't gain weight now if I am gonna gain weight on chemo. But now that I have read all the other drugs side effects and how all 7 of them include loss of appitite, and weight loss I hope that the predisone will really just couteract the other drugs and not cause weight gain. Who knows we will see. Good luck to you this week!

Thank Goodness for Exercise

Okay, so I never fare so well in October, like I said last month, it's scary! Anyway, after an entire month, all I did was maintain and it's amazing I did because I ate tons of candy. It was all over my house and I just couldn't help it. I need some of Tammy's will power. Seriously, who loses weight the week of Halloween? You go girl! Unlike Mark's previous post, I do attribute my maintenance to exercise. I'm sure I would have gained several pounds if I hadn't been consistent and exercised at least four days a week. So I say Kudos to exercise!

Steady as she goes...

So both Tammy and I maintained this week.
I was really hoping to lose those 2lbs I gained back last week (which I actually did if you count my weight Friday morning). Throughout the week I ran a total of 17 miles and played racquetball with Troy (without injury this time!)...hence the 2 lb loss by Friday. However, this goes to show you that you can't exercise all week and then decide Friday and Saturday to eat at Carl's Jr. and McDonald's as well as pig out on Halloween candy and expect to magically keep those 2 lbs off! Oh well!

Let the Holidays Begin...

I just read Roy the lastest blogs and we were both in stitches. He said we are excited about everybody's progress (or lack thereof) and found all the excuses very entertaining so we thought we would join you. He also said he stressed all week about weather or not he had a job or had to move so he "Stress Ate" more that his fair share. However, the job thing is still good (for a least another year) and no "moves" in the works so that excuse is as gone as Halloween. Actually we heard about a great idea and tried it this year. "Money for candy". We gave our kids each $5 if they gave us all their uneaten candy on Halloween night, $3 for the next night and $1 for Sunday night. I was so surprised and excited that Karen and Hyrum both took us up on the offer for Halloween night. You should have seen them during scriptures however - shoving it down as fast as they could. David gave it up on Sat. for $3. What a great, WONDERFUL treat to have all of it hidden away for a night at the movies, thrown away and given away. Not one candy wrapper could be found Saturday afternoon. And the best thing was between the $ and all the candy they could eat that night, nobody even felt cheated.

Anyway, Roy said he really did lost 3/4 of a pound but Cat said he can just save that up until he reaches a whole pound. I maintained AGAIN and although I am going to have to actually work out a little more to get up to you "10-13 pound losers" I am UP TO THE CHALLENAGE. So bring on the holiday cookies, fudge and pies!

California weight loss

Teri lost 1 lb and Mom lost .5 lb... (and they said I could update it too!)

Up and Down!

Perhaps we should rename the blog with that title: Wardle Family Ups and Downs! It sure has been the major theme! I am glad to see that the downs tend to out number the ups.
So here is the skinny (and the not so skinny) on the weight report:
DOWN: Tammy - 2.5 lbs
UP: Mark - 2 lbs of candy corn (with a few other varieties of sweets in there as well!).
So I am back down to 9lbs total loss. I do have to say that with my "on-court vasectomy" that Troy gave me last Friday, I was sort of out of commission with regards to exercise for most of the week! So Tyler blames Cancer and Pizza, and I blame Troy and the racquetball! By the way...I guess Tammy and I are done having kids! Ha Ha Ha.

weight loss for the bachelorette?

I lost .5 lbs!.. woohoo... and that with candy around... how did everybody else do?

The Bachelor

Well, as a relative bachelor, I guess it's my job to actually post
for myself now! I don't really have any weight loss to report, but hey, I blame the CANCER! Why you might ask. It's not my fault I'm alone with no wife, and a Walmart full of frozen pizzas. Seriously, I think I've eaten more frozen pizza in the last 2 1/2 weeks than I did when I was single in college. So, pizza and cancer, those are my enemies!

Death by Candy Corn

Let's just say I am a few candy corn heavier than I was previously. We'll update this week. We have Fast Sunday on our side!

Thousand Pounds

I just heard a little saying that I felt fit me to a tee. This old guy said that his wife had lost a thousand pounds. It just happend to be the same 5 lbs over and over again. If we are counting those 5 lbs, then I think I may have won! I just can't get over the 230 mark. Adam, Brett, Braydon, Jace and I hiked over 30 miles this last week and still nothing. We even carried a gun for extra weight. Mabey if we had something to run after I could have lost some weight. Just so you know where I am Kat, still at the 230 mark.

Where is everybody?

So I weighed my self this morning.. and I have maintained! How about every body else.. it has been a while sine anyone has updated!.. HELLO OUT THERE!.. (echo, echo, echo?...)

Amy and Brett

I talked to both at the party tonight. Amy says they are just coasting along at the same place: Maintenance City. I hear the view of that city is better from their place then it is from mine! Just a few more pounds and I'll buy a lot next to theirs...I hope. -Mark

ooops!

We forgot to weigh this morning and me and the boys leave for Califonia tomorow.. so next week I will have to weigh in on their scale... we will have to update then... sorry didn'y have time to call Saunya and Roy... Hopefully we will see all the Utahins Wednesday or so.. laterz!

Feeling down...

And DOWN never felt so good!
Tammy is down 2.5 lbs from last week and I lost the 2 lbs I had gained back the week before.
Of course with the birthday party tonight...

Plateau City?

No, that's not it, it's more like a roller coaster ride. This past month has been filled with ups and downs. Fortunately, the ups have not outnumbered the downs. Unfortunately, the downs barely outnumbered the ups. I only lost 1/2 a pound this month so I'm at 13.5. Pretty sad, huh? I'll try to get back on track. As for Troy, that strep throat really didn't help. He gained those four pounds right back. So, his total is back to 6 pounds. I know, we're not doing too well and the scary thing is we're heading into the bad months. Scary!

The Water Diet!

So Roy's secret made me remember when we had to drink a certain amount of water per day for a "Healthy Challenge" we had at work a few years ago. It was such a memorable time that I decided to put my thoughts to a poem:

The Water Diet

We are 60% water already
But why not add some more.
It’s the fad, the latest diet -
Water, water, water galore!

I’d like to take a little time
And spell out all that’s great
About our friend, Mr. H2O,
There’s much to celebrate!

A little water before you eat
And you should fill up fast.
Then after dinner, to stay feeling full
Just down another glass.

And when that cheeseburger stares at you,
A very tasty temptation,
Just drink a gallon of our pal water -
You’ll lose that craving sensation!

And then perhaps, if your stomach’s small,
That is not all you will lose.
Eating will then be the last on your mind -
Oh what glorious news!

And let’s not forget all the exercise!
Yes water will make you go ZOOM.
At work, at play and even at night -
ZOOM! ZOOM! ZOOM to the bathroom!

So you can see how water can be
A great way to lose some weight.
So drink it right up, and have some to spare
Doesn’t the water diet sound great!

Update..

So we are behind on our weight loss... for us to hit our 427 lbs weight loss goal.. we need to be losing 106.5 lbs every three months. From July 5th(the day we got back from vacation) it has been three months today.. and we have only lost 83 lbs!... we are behind! lets kick it up a notch!.. believe me I realize that I was the one that gained last week! (don't think I am not talking to myself!) So.. in the next three months lets hit our goal! Good luck everybody.. and keep reporting... it really does motivate! (Tyler would like to point out that we are only behind by less than 2 lbs each!.. We can all loose 2 more lbs!)

Roy and Saunya

Roy is happy to report 2lb weight loss.. and Saunya would like to report maintaining.. Roy secret is water and lots of it!!!...

OWL's..

Cat amazingly lost .5 lb so I am almost back to where I should be, Tyler maintained... He says he blames Mom's cooking.. I don't know why my cooking doesn't get blamed for putting on the lbs like Mom's roast beef and double stuff potatoes but he blames her! :)... ( ok so maybe I do know why)

Poll Results...Not too shabby!

There were 8 votes total:
4 of you voted that Tammy and I would gain 0 lbs and possibly even lose more (very kind...but misguided. Yes even Tammy was one of you optimistic dreamers!)
2 votes for 1-3 lbs
2 votes for 4-7 lbs (one of those was me!)
and (thankfully) no one voted that we would gain more than 8 of the lbs back!

So what really happened... we gained 3 of the lbs back!
Tammy only gained 1 lb back (for a net of 4lbs loss since starting the kick start)
I gained 2lbs back (net of 6 lbs loss)

It actually was pretty good since both of us gained those pounds back the very next day so we really maintained the rest of the week!

Hopefully we will now not gain anymore back and will start losing again!

Uh Oh, GC talks have started again...better go and listen!
