Christmas Miracles

Somehow, Tammy was able to lose one more pound bringing her down to a total of 17 lbs so far...way to go baby!
Mark's miracle was that Santa brought him a You-Don't-Have-To-Report-This-Week card which I am using this week for one reason or another! Ho Ho HO!

Avoid the Holiday Horror: Winter Weight-gain...

Here is a tiny article from my work's newsletter about holiday eating:

Here come the holidays! Most of us just “give up” paying attention to what we eat during this special time of year. There are so many foods we label as “bad” but we still really enjoy them. Let the holidays be stress free as you follow some simple tips:

• Focus on weight maintenance rather than weight loss during the holidays. Don’t make unrealistic goals that will set you up for failure.
• Begin a healthy eating plan now and make the holidays a part of the plan. Anticipating food restriction will increase the likelihood of binge eating. It’s common to think: “If I can’t eat this when I start my diet, I might as well eat as much as I can now!”
• Be physically active every day, even if you just take a walk around the block.
• Eat a healthy snack before going to a holiday party or bring the veggie tray with you. If you go to a party starving, you are more likely to choose high-fat, high-calorie foods, as well as overeat.
• Reduce the fat in holiday recipes. Cheesy, creamy dishes tend to have high amounts of fat.
There are several healthy substitutes that can be used when cooking. Below are some healthy
substitution tips.
• Maintain perspective. Over- eating during one meal will not break your eating plan. If you over-indulge during a holiday meal, put it behind you. Remember it’s a holiDAY not a holiWEEK or holiMONTH. Anticipate the extra calories and adjust your meals accordingly.

Ingredient Substitute
Sour cream - low fat plain yogurt or low fat sour cream
Whole milk - skim or 1 % milk
Whipped cream - low fat whipped products like Cool Whip
Butter - oil, apple sauce, prune puree (in baked goods)

A little colder in Utah...

That's right, this week I have a little less insulation. I thankfully lost 3 of the 4 "Thanksgiving" lbs this week. Just one more pound it'll be like that car-ride junk food and thanksgiving turkey never even existed!
Tammy did the official weigh in as well and has been maintaining the 15lb weight loss despite the Thanksgiving/Vacation. She is probably the only reason I am doing as well as I am. I always want to make a snack or some hot chocolate and she says, "sounds great, but I'll pass", and it's just too hard to make a snack for just myself!

So...

I gained... three pounds! apparently when the only thing you want to eat is pizza rolls, you gain. I will make a mental note of that for next week.... eek!

November Update

Troy thinks he has maintained. I personally don't think he gets on the scale much. As for me, I'm slowly trying to get back on track after two rollercoaster months. I lost 3.5 this month which puts my total now at 17. I would love to lose some in December but....well I guess we'll see.....October didn't work out so well and December is typically worse for me. This week we have a neighbor Christmas party, a Relief Society Christmas party, and our Christmas Cookie Party. It's a good thing I post monthly because I doubt next week will look very good. Hopefully I can stay on track. Any good advice?

Bringing a little back from Cali...

Like 4 lbs back!!! We did enjoy the trip to California and I even did a little running and racquetball while I was there...thank heavens or I might have gained it all back.
We eat alot of snacks when we drive and of course you can't forget Thanksgiving and card playing...both notorious for heavy eating. Oh well...
Tammy seems to have done a better job maintaining.
Hopefully Tammy will continue to maintain and I will lose some of those California trip "memories" by our Sunday weigh - in!

Cat weight loss...

I lost a pound!.. woohoo!....)

Nothing new...thank heavens!

We both maintained this week.
I have been on-call all week which means several middle of the night calls and deliveries. So when I am home, I sleep. Hence, exercise has been poor on my part while my calorie intake has, um, not slowed down any. I guess I am just lucky Tammy has hid the halloween candy!
Next Sunday we'll be reporting from Cali. I better work hard this week because we all know that long car trips are not very friendly to the waist-line!

Cat weight loss...

I lost 2 lbs...hopefully it was fat and not muscle!

This week...

... I maintained.. I sure do a lot of that!... This week we will see how the chemo effects (or is affects) my appetite... I really never am hungry anymore but I just eat out of habit ( and the fact that they have so much good food around here!- strawberries, salads, turkey, chicken, and foods that I will not be able to eat after wednesday) At first I kept telling myself "i need to eat to keep my strength up) then I found out that part of my treatment would entail prednisone (a steriod known for uping your appitite and causing weight gain.) So I stopped eating so much thinking.. I can't gain weight now if I am gonna gain weight on chemo. But now that I have read all the other drugs side effects and how all 7 of them include loss of appitite, and weight loss I hope that the predisone will really just couteract the other drugs and not cause weight gain. Who knows we will see. Good luck to you this week!

Thank Goodness for Exercise

Okay, so I never fare so well in October, like I said last month, it's scary! Anyway, after an entire month, all I did was maintain and it's amazing I did because I ate tons of candy. It was all over my house and I just couldn't help it. I need some of Tammy's will power. Seriously, who loses weight the week of Halloween? You go girl! Unlike Mark's previous post, I do attribute my maintenance to exercise. I'm sure I would have gained several pounds if I hadn't been consistent and exercised at least four days a week. So I say Kudos to exercise!

Steady as she goes...

So both Tammy and I maintained this week.
I was really hoping to lose those 2lbs I gained back last week (which I actually did if you count my weight Friday morning). Throughout the week I ran a total of 17 miles and played racquetball with Troy (without injury this time!)...hence the 2 lb loss by Friday. However, this goes to show you that you can't exercise all week and then decide Friday and Saturday to eat at Carl's Jr. and McDonald's as well as pig out on Halloween candy and expect to magically keep those 2 lbs off! Oh well!

Let the Holidays Begin...

I just read Roy the lastest blogs and we were both in stitches. He said we are excited about everybody's progress (or lack thereof) and found all the excuses very entertaining so we thought we would join you. He also said he stressed all week about weather or not he had a job or had to move so he "Stress Ate" more that his fair share. However, the job thing is still good (for a least another year) and no "moves" in the works so that excuse is as gone as Halloween. Actually we heard about a great idea and tried it this year. "Money for candy". We gave our kids each $5 if they gave us all their uneaten candy on Halloween night, $3 for the next night and $1 for Sunday night. I was so surprised and excited that Karen and Hyrum both took us up on the offer for Halloween night. You should have seen them during scriptures however - shoving it down as fast as they could. David gave it up on Sat. for $3. What a great, WONDERFUL treat to have all of it hidden away for a night at the movies, thrown away and given away. Not one candy wrapper could be found Saturday afternoon. And the best thing was between the $ and all the candy they could eat that night, nobody even felt cheated.

Anyway, Roy said he really did lost 3/4 of a pound but Cat said he can just save that up until he reaches a whole pound. I maintained AGAIN and although I am going to have to actually work out a little more to get up to you "10-13 pound losers" I am UP TO THE CHALLENAGE. So bring on the holiday cookies, fudge and pies!

California weight loss

Teri lost 1 lb and Mom lost .5 lb... (and they said I could update it too!)

Up and Down!

Perhaps we should rename the blog with that title: Wardle Family Ups and Downs! It sure has been the major theme! I am glad to see that the downs tend to out number the ups.
So here is the skinny (and the not so skinny) on the weight report:
DOWN: Tammy - 2.5 lbs
UP: Mark - 2 lbs of candy corn (with a few other varieties of sweets in there as well!).
So I am back down to 9lbs total loss. I do have to say that with my "on-court vasectomy" that Troy gave me last Friday, I was sort of out of commission with regards to exercise for most of the week! So Tyler blames Cancer and Pizza, and I blame Troy and the racquetball! By the way...I guess Tammy and I are done having kids! Ha Ha Ha.

weight loss for the bachelorette?

I lost .5 lbs!.. woohoo... and that with candy around... how did everybody else do?
