Yep, this was marathon week. I ran 26.2 miles yesterday and finished just under 5 hours (4:50:53) which is a lot faster than I thought I was going to run it. I ran the first half of the marathon in 2:20 and thought I ran the last half sooo much slower (The last 4 miles I would walk 1-2 minutes and then run the rest of that mile - a strategy I was taught by a 70 y/o marathoner I met at the beginning of the race) but I only added 10 more minutes to that last half so I was pretty excited about that!
Anyway, this is a weight loss blog not a "go-on-and-on-about-my-marathon" blog so I will get back to the weight issue...
I carb loaded this week (lots of pancakes, french toast, spaghetti, lasagna, and ravioli...yummy!) with the goal of maintaining my weight within a half pound. Sure enough I weighed in at 4am Saturday AM at a 1/2lb gain and then left for the marathon. I thought it would be fun to weigh in after the marathon too. Despite drinking a LOT of water and a medium sized berry julius in the hour between the marathon and when I weighed in at home, I had lost 3 lbs. Of course I was probably still quite dehydrated and had no food bulk in me at all!
And now, after a cheese stick, a Six-dollar Western Bacon Cheeseburger, several brownies, and 3 slices of pizza (not the wheat kind), I ended up this morning completely even with last week.
That's right, this was a VERY long post to essentially say...I maintained! But it sure was a fun way to do it!

Wheat Pizza to the Rescue!
Yesterday was a busy day so we thought we'd order pizza so we could keep working while we waited for it. Papa John's has a whole wheat pizza that is actually pretty good. We tried it a few weeks ago and then again yesterday.
Usually with pizza I can easily eat half a large and sometimes more (in fact I find it hard to NOT eat half a pizza!!!). Luckily the Wheat stuff, while yummy, fills me up after only one or two slices. So, thanks to chosing the wheat last night, I can still report a pound weight loss this week. Yeah Wheat!

Who would have thought...
I pulled a muscle (at least I hope that is all it was) on Monday so I didn't run the rest of the week in order to recover. I was fully expecting some bad news when I mounted the scales today but was pleasantly surprised. Down 2 lbs. It was probably from the week before when I forgot to weigh myself but I'll take it.
My foot still hurts a bit today but I hope it will be okay as I try to do my training runs this week...I need it to heal for my marathon! Otherwise it's $60 down the drain!

OOPS!!!
I forgot to weigh today. My marathon training has me eating more carbs starting last week until the marathon on the 13th and the book really encourages me NOT to lose any weight during these 4 weeks in order to "build up" my Glycogen supply. So I am tempted just not to weigh myself for a month...but then I am worried I will gain tons! Hmmmm.

Mark vs Munchies...the final match.
After a 2 wk wait for this highly anticipated final match we have a winner. Mark gave the Munchies a steady beating while in the Dominican Republic resisting the various chips and snacks available. Nevertheless the Munchies fought back with tasty fried empanadas for dinners and an amazing final effort last night at the family birthday party where he POUNDED Mark with Pizza, Licorice, Cake and Icecream. Mark tried to stay in the game by burnng some calories at the foosball, pingpong and airhockey courts but was it enough...IT WAS! 3-2 win by 1 lb! Mark emerges champion in an international - all out - down to the wire - match that will not soon be repeated! [crowd roars]
(of course now that we're back in the States with alot more snacks available...we will see how well he maintains his victory!?!)

Plateu city
Well we both hit a plateau this week, maintained... (with all that pizza, candy and Mom's good food.. this is great!)
We also saw Amy, who looked amazing and reported 15 pound weight loss! (which I think was her goal)
How did everybody else fair?

Game on...
Ok, so many a comments I've heard about "where's Tyler?", "how's Tyler's weight loss", etc. Truth is, I haven't really done much since we left for Oklahoma (not from... to Oklahoma). And I even put on some weight when Catherine left me there. However, a week or so ago I went down below three hundred for the first time since Oklahoma, and then up and downed for a while until I landed at 301 lb (one less than I started at back in July). I decided since Cat is now speed walking every night with the RS in the neighborhood for an hour I should get some exercise time as well, but hadn't started yet. Well, today I ate horribly for lunch, a student brought me a Mt. Dew, and all I could think was, great more weight. So, I decided to do something about it.
Tonight I went running. It was more of a walk/jog, but I put in a little more than a mile. It's a small start, but I'm back in the game. I'm eating better, I'm not BUYING any more soda (in case anyone is unclear, it's soda, not pop), and I'm running. Bottom line, I'm back in the game, and I'm gunna be losing some serious weight. Mark, I hear there's some personal betting going on and you can count me in. I need all the money I can get ;-)
Keep up if you can, but I'll be catching up fast cause this fatty is tired of being like this.

Crunch Time Challenge!!!
So unlike Tammy and Jackee who were already self motivated enough to lose tons of weight in half the time, I thought based on Cat's article she found that the rest of us could use some more motivation. This is really for those of us still trying to lose weight but who know for one reason or another we aren't going to be the BIG LOSER who walks away with the BIG WIN.
Here's the idea:
Those who say they want to join in will compete with each other...$1 per pound difference!
What does that mean... if I end up losing 30lbs (dream on...) and YOU only lose 17lbs, the difference is 13lbs so you pay me $13! Of course if YOU lost 30 and I only lost 10 then I would pay you $20 but Person #3 who also joined in but only lost 3lbs would pay me $7 and YOU $27. Get it?
The overall winner would be excluded of course (as will Tammy and Jackee...sorry girls but unless you're planning on weighing in on July 19th, you are already done with the weightloss for the year -besides, Jackee still looks like she may BE the big winner!). However, it will be some motivation for the rest of us to stay strong and rededicate ourselves to living healthy.
How will this motivate YOU???
#1 - Positive thinker: "If I lose more than the rest of those who join in (or even just the majority)...I will be walking away with some extra cash to go blow at some cool salad bar!!!
#2 - Negative thinker: "I'm not going to lose enough to come out ahead...but every pound I do lose means that is one less dollar I will have to give to those who beat me!!!
So what do you say? Are you in?

Mark vs Munchies week 4...Back in the Game!
That's right, I lost a pound this week. Some of that might have been skin of my face, neck, arms and calves now that the sunburn has started peeling!!! Ha Ha.
So if I can stay on top of the munchies this week that will mean I will triumph 3 out of 5 weeks and I can finally come up with another title for my posts!!! Won't that be great?!?

Another great week...
I am down another pound and a half! For a total of 13 and just single digits away from my goal!... wooohoo! This week has been great for exercise, I walk every night at 9pm with the neighborhood ladies, we figure after we get the kids in bed we can actually get some speed on instead of having to wait for the kids to "pedal hard" or stop and grab the lost sippy cup that was thrown out of the stoller, we love it! Plus Stake womens volley ball startedon thursdays! I missed volleyball!.. Watchout guys.. vacation is coming up! How did did you all do?!?

Interesting article I found...
Weight Loss You Can Bank On
So says a study in which dieters who were paid to lose weight dropped about 10 pounds more than the people not offered the dollar reward.
Reach Your Goal, Get the Green
Researchers recently put a group of obese people into one of three weight loss plans. Two of the programs included a cash-reward incentive, one did not. The goal: Lose 16 pounds in 16 weeks. When time was up, the cash-reward groups lost 14 and 13 pounds. The control group? Only 3 pounds.
Mark vs Munchies: How about 3 out of 5...
That's right...no success this week. :( This was my busy work week which means I usually ate late and snacked often. I also hurt my ankle so I ran a LOT less this week. Hopefully my ankle will heal up and I can get back in the game!
This week..
is down again... at least for Catherine... I have lost 1.5 lbs, I am over halfway to my goal!.Feels like I might actually get there now. Tyler maintained... that makes a net loss in Idaho! Woohoo! How did everybody else do?
**Did anyone notice we have exactly three months left until the start of the reunion?... so who is holding back on their weight loss.. becuase we are no where near our goal... has anyone talked to anyone in California or Amy or Brett?... maybe they can help our numbers!

Bowing Out
Yup, just like Catherine said, I am out of the race. I did lose 25 pounds, though, before I got pregnant so you all have your work cut out for you. Come on, I know you can do it!
